Social/Behavioural Support
This service is provided by Katy Harris
The ‘Thinking and Feeling’ room is where children are encouraged to:
- Become more precise about the nature of their problems and learn to see their issues more clearly
- Take responsibility for fixing the problem rather than complaining, blaming, hiding, ignoring or disguising them
- Release feelings/emotions than have built up or get in the way of progress
- Develop self awareness of issues from past, present or future
- Develop strategies to work out what to think/say/do in order to cope better
- Construct language to do that with appropriate results, without using excessive force to be heard
- Evaluate their success and notice what works and why
- Monitor progress in their social/emotional/school/home or friendship life
- Attribute changes to learning in behaviour, feelings or results
- Gain a better understanding of themselves
- Become ready to care enough to make changes in their own lives
Children use expressive therapy tools such as play therapy, creative writing, drama, sand tray and puppet play during their sessions. Parents are guided by the therapist to support their child in new ways in order to create respectful and constructive relationships.
Some of the approaches used include:
Solution focused therapy
ACT therapy
