This can be extremely helpful if your child is experiencing emotional or behavioural difficulties, or needs support coping with difficult circumstances or experiences. Psychotherapy and counselling can help your child in a variety of ways. It can help to identify, understand and resolve problems and provides emotional support during this process. It also assists individuals to modify their behavior and make positive changes in their lives.

What is Psychotherapy/Counselling?

Psychotherapy is a therapeutic process that is used to help and support individuals cope with difficulties they may be experiencing.  A psychologist is a trained listener who provides a safe environment in which these difficulties can be explored and coping strategies can be taught. Our psychologist also uses a therapy called Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). This focuses on understanding an individual’s thoughts, feelings and behaviours and how these can impact on daily life. By challenging unhelpful thoughts and behaviours, CBT encourages individuals to generate more realistic versions of situations and helps to improve their ability to cope and change their responses to these situations.

Psychotherapy and counselling helps children who are experiencing difficulties such as:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Anger management issues

  • Phobias

  • Adjustment issues

  • Social skills concerns

  • Grief and loss

  • Behavioural issues

  • Trauma

  • Bullying

  • School refusal
